US Awards Border Wall Contracts for $812.6 Million
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced that new contracts were awarded for new border wall construction in the Rio Grande Valley.
Three contracts were awarded to build approximately 65 miles of new border wall. The border wall will include steel bollard walls of 18-30 feet in height, all weather roads, lighting, security cameras and other related technology. It is expected that construction will begin after the new year.
The funding for these projects did not come from a National Emergency Declaration.
The Rio Grand Valley is the busiest Sector in the nation – 40% of illegal apprehensions occur at RGV and RGV seizes more cocaine and marijuana than any other Sector.
These new contracts come after the news that the pentagon diverted $3.6 billion in funding for military projects to pay for border wall construction. Congress has also approved $1.375 billion for border barriers in the annual budget.
