Highly Trained – Poorly Treated

In a recent story, Mexican workers have allegedly been exploited by automotive manufacturing plants. LeGrange auto and Calhoun Flooring are being accused of exploiting Mexican engineers. The accusation is that the manufacturers hired Mexican workers under false pretenses. The claim further states that the companies hired highly educated Mexican workers under TN Visas  only to have them work in production lines for less pay than previously agreed upon.

“The latest cases claim violations of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act as well as federal labor and equal rights laws. They seek relief for about 300 Mexicans employed under the TN visa program at the LX Hausys and Sewon factories in Georgia since March of 2018 and 2019, respectively.”

This situation is complex for many Mexicans under the TN Visa. They have gone to the US for a better life, the visa application costed them money, they invested in new clothing for what they thought were high profile engineering positions. The workers are professionally, financially and personally invested in the situation.

The TN Visa holders are left in the middle of a peculiar position. They have invested a lot of money into the situation and they are making less than what they were allegedly promised.

What’s to come?
